Powhatan Methodist Preschool has been providing a quality preschool education to young children in Powhatan and surrounding counties since first opening its doors in the fall of 1989. The preschool was established as a non-profit ministry of the church and welcomes all families. Although ministers and church leadership boards have changed, Sharon Baltimore has been the preschool director since the doors opened. From its beginning with 27 children attending preschool 3 or 3 mornings a week from 9 AM to 12 PM, the preschool has grown with the community of Powhatan to meet the changing needs of young families. The programs of the preschool are designed for children ages 2 ½ to 5 ½ years of age. Classes are held from September through May with Summer Fun Camps offered for several weeks in the summer. Morning preschool hours are 9 AM to 12 PM but many options are available for Early Drop Off, Lunch Bunch and Extended Care that make a day from 7:45 AM to 4:45 PM possible.
It is our belief that all persons are worthy children of God and every individual has the right to reach his fullest potential. It is the objective of the preschool program to offer age appropriate social and learning experiences for the child. The social, mental, physical and emotional development will be addressed in the context of Christian growth and understanding. The design of the program enables the church to live out its mission to provide this ministry to the surrounding communities.
